An Air Force colonel was arrested after soliciting sex from an undercover officer portraying a 14-year-old boy online.
Michael Shawn Garrett, who is 44, was taken into custody by the Panama City Beach Police Department after he drove to what he believed was the child's home, according to a press release from the Panama City Beach Police Department.
In a conversation with the person he believed to be a child, he described in detail his interest in having sex with the boy and insisted on meeting in person.
He was charged with traveling to meet a minor for sex, solicitation of a minor for sex and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
Garrett is stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base, according to PCBPD.
"The Air Force sets high standards for our people and we won't tolerate airmen who fall short of those standards," Tyndall said in a released statement. "The Air Force is committed to the pursuit of justice. Any speculation at this point without having all of the details is not only unfair to the individuals involved but could affect the outcome of the investigation."
