GE Aviation, together with GE Intelligent Platforms, introduced a new collection of computing platforms in the form of rugged, embedded computers.

The new GE Aviation platform is created to lower development time for both piloted and unmanned aerial vehicles as well as cost for military consumers and enable third-party hosted functions, the company said.

Applications include vehicle management, utility management, navigation and guidance, mission payload and sensor management, communication management, and aerial refueling.

All software components needed to fully support embedded avionics application software development are included in the computing platform. In order to reduce the impact of future hardware modifications on application software, the components are created to provide standard application program interfaces and a hardware abstraction layer.

GE Aviation’s computing platform is designed to host Future Airborne Capability Environment conformant applications for aircraft of the future, the company said.
